Ideas, theories, and models are fine.  Reality, when introduced, ensures that the only certainty is; events will not unfold according to plan.  No amount of preparation or contingency can reconcile the difference between an abstraction and the real thing.

Implementing a new process or product requires being able to go beyond the plan, rising to each situation, responding quickly and effectively, and remembering that whatever is being implemented is only a small part of the greater whole.  Business must continue as usual and at no point is it acceptable to inconvenience a customer or employee because of the implementation process.

The reason for implementing a new process or product is to allow the enterprise to offer stakeholders greater value.  Once in place, there must be a perceivable increase in stakeholder satisfaction.  Part of the implementation process is to ensure that the affected stakeholders are able to realize this greater value.  From this perspective, implementation goes beyond making it work to making it understandable.

No matter how challenging the implementation process is, this truly is the most enjoyable job that exists.
